EU Takes Strong Stance Against China, Commits to Protecting Its Interests Assertively<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The European Union’s top trade negotiator delivered a firm message to China on Monday, stating that the EU will take a more forceful approach in upholding fair competition and defending its own interests. In a keynote address at Tsinghua University, Valdis Dombrovskis, an executive vice president at the European Commission, emphasized the need for a level playing field in trade.<\/span><\/p>\n

While welcoming competition, Dombrovskis emphasized the importance of fairness and stated that the EU will not hesitate to address any unfair practices. This warning comes as the EU seeks to strengthen its defensive trade measures, including launching an anti-subsidy probe into Chinese electric vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his visit to China, Dombrovskis will meet with Chinese counterparts, participate in bilateral meetings, and engage with European business representatives. His main goal is to establish concrete agreements in order to reset the relationship between the EU and China.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dombrovskis also highlighted the EU’s concerns regarding Russia’s war in Ukraine, expressing confusion over China’s stance on the conflict. He stressed the importance of territorial integrity and urged China to use its influence to help end the aggression in Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Dombrovskis pointed out the negative impact of the war on the global economy, including increased energy prices and inflation. He highlighted the reputational risks faced by China and emphasized the need for a united front in resolving the conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his remarks, Dombrovskis presented two possible paths for the EU and China: one of mutually beneficial relations based on open and fair trade, and another where the shared benefits weaken and opportunities diminish. He urged both parties to choose the former and work together to tackle the challenges of our time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The outcome of these talks could potentially pave the way for a summit between President Xi Jinping and EU President Ursula von der Leyen later this year.
